Carlisle High School students worked together to create and implement a sustainable program at that combined science, math, and business curriculum and provided opportunities for students to build entrepreneurial skills. Students and teachers work to cultivate the innovative and entrepreneurial mindset within a small cohort of students who are part of the Work-Based Learning Program.

Students create business canvas models to identify a concern within the business and come up with viable solutions to present to the business owner.

Carlisle High School students work with administrators of a local daycare to identify areas  that need improvement. By collecting surveys, interviewing employees, and implementing data analysis, students identified ways in which operating expenses could be lowered. They conducted cost analyses of all food purchased and utilized within the daycare, and designed a model which lowered food cost and waste. These students continue to work with the daycare to examine effectiveness and implement strategies to improve efficiency.

Carlisle High School students decreased spending and increased revenue of a local daycare by analyzing expenditures and lowering waste.

Increased Innovation and Entrepreneurial Skills

Students involved with this project develop and implement skills necessary to be successful in the business realm. By working with business personnel, analyzing industry data, and collaborating with each other to create solutions, students gain valuable experience solving real-world problems.

Student team members have worked together to successfully reduce cost and increase efficiency of a local daycare.

Students have developed vital 21st Century Skills in the following ways:

  • Students have worked through the business model canvas and worked together to identify potential problems, pivot, and adjust implementation strategies based on feedback.
  • Students came together to set goals
  • Students collaborated with each other to utilize the business canvas model.
