Students at Davenport Central High School have banded together to form Step It Up Central- a program aimed at promoting green transportation to and from school. The Davenport Central team has successfully decrease carbon dioxide emissions in their town by implementing an incentive program to promote walking, biking, and carpooling.

Davenport Central students are working together to promote green transportation. Their green initiative, Step it Up Central, encourages students to walk, bike, or carpool to and from school, thereby decreasing CO2 emissions. Students are asked to log the amount of miles they have walked, biked, or carpooled to and from school. Prizes are given to students who log the most miles.

Decrease Carbon Dioxide Pollution

Increased Innovation and Entrepreneurial Skills

Students involved with this project develop and implement skills necessary to be successful in the business realm. Team members surveyed students to assess student transportation and interest in a green incentive program.

Reducing CO2 Emissions

The Step it Up Central program has reduced the amount of students who drive to and from school, which has decreased emissions of carbon dioxide.

Development of 21st Century Skills

Students have developed vital 21st Century Skills in the following ways:

  • Students have worked through the business model canvas and worked together to identify potential problems, pivot, and adjust implementation strategies based on feedback.
  • Students came together to set goals
  • Students collaborated with each other to utilize the business canvas model.
  • Students collected data through a survey.
